Based in Wellington, New Zealand. Director Dave Whitehead has over 20 years experience as a sound designer and composer for film and television.
He has been nominated for a BAFTA and CAS award and has won Golden Reel (Motion Picture Sound Editor Awards) for the films ‘District 9’ and Tin Tin, and has been nominated for several other Golden Reels. He has won and been nominated for several New Zealand film awards. He was also invited to be an honorary AMPAS member in 2013.
Possum is Dave’s Directorial debut and is based on one of his first childhood experiences in the New Zealand forest.
Born in England, Sadie Wilson is a producer, production manager and actress, known for Furious 7 (2015), Thunderbirds Are Go (2015) and The Beeps (2007). She joined the Possum team as producer at the beginning of 2016 and spearheaded our shoot in Otaki. Sadie spent a good part of this year as a production coordinator for New Zealand film ‘Pork Pie’ and has several projects heading into 2017.
Paul Murphy has worked for 35 years in an industry where he began as a production runner. It was the beginning of a long apprenticeship that saw him move through art department, lighting and gripping culminating in the position of Key Grip on world renown films like The Lord of the Rings and King Kong.
In 2008 he announced his move to directing when releasing his debut feature film Second-Hand Wedding which he also co-produced. The film was a remarkable success and after a long run in the cinema’s it be- came the seventh highest grossing film in New Zealand cinema box office history.
In 2011 his second film, romantic comedy Love Birds was released. The film starred NZ comedian Rhys Darby and Golden Globe winning UK actress Sally Hawkins. Love Birds received great reviews and was New Zealand’s third highest grossing film that year
Editor Greg Daniels began his story telling career as a screenwriter in Canada. But in 2005, while working on the pilot for adventure travel series ‘Departures’, Greg met an enchanting kiwi from the Kapiti Coast, where he now calls home. Since then, Greg has been collaborating throughout the New Zealand screen industry, editing on such films as: ‘Good For Nothing,’ ‘Eruption’ & ’Born to Dance’ as well as assistant editing on international features like ‘The Hobbit Trilogy’ and Disney’s ‘Pete’s Dragon.’
Tane Upjohn-Beatson is a Wellington based composer and sound designer. His score for ‘Possum’, is a warm mix of gypsy jazz, string quartet, and nimble clarinet. Tane is a massive musical talent and we were incredibly lucky to have him score our little film.
